Put simply the Beast is  "the fear of loving, of abandoning oneself" (the Director) The amazing Lea Seydoux is Gabrielle, who as part of a process to purify her DNA experiences three time frames with Louis (George MacKay) in an attempt to overcome the fear.

In a not so distant future that seems closer by the minute a young woman Gabrielle, who dreams of a better job undergoes a process to purify her DNA which is part of a process people go through to achieve progress in their careers.

On a trip to the centre, she meets a man, Louis, and they are instantly drawn to each other. During the purifying process she then meets with Louis in three different time frames and 'lives'.  Paris in 1910, LA in 2014 and in 2044.

Louis is hesitant about undergoing the DNA surgery for fear of losing the ability to feel, yet he is fearful of loving himself.

The Beast dives deep in all the time frames asking questions of its audiences about what it is to be human and what the future could hold for us.

Compelling is a word used in many reviews for this film and for all lovers of art house foreign language films that is exactly what The Beast will be.

"The Beast is quite beautiful, in its way, as it considers the fear of feeling, the fear of loving, and what it means to be human." Rotten Tomatoes

"A transcendent epic." In Session Film

" 3 intertwined eras. In each, passion.  Seydoux’s a marvel.  She sustains multitudes." New City

"Seydoux works her soft magnetism throughout. "  UK Times
